Stop Press

Many Heritage Open Days organisers produce and print local Heritage Open Days leaflets which complement the Civic Trust’s national online directory.

With such a large programme of voluntary events, changes and cancellations can well occur, even at the very last minute. The Civic Trust updates online entries as soon as it is notified of any changes. Please always check details on the web directory before setting out.

In addition, we would like to post and highlight here some rectifications and changes relating to this year’s promotional material that have come to our attention.

Please note that the Civic Trust, nor the individual organisers, can accept responsibility for any changes or errors, or any disappointment or inconvenience arising from them.

Cumbria Heritage Open Days

Some unfortunate errors in the Cumbria HODs brochure mean that several incorrect and misleading statements are made in the entry for The Jerwood Centre at The Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere. The information on this website is correct.

Visitors to the Jerwood Centre event should please note the following:

Neither the Jerwood Centre or any other of the buildings on the Wordsworth Trust site at Grasmere belong to the National Trust as erroneously stated in the Cumbria Heritage Open Days brochure.

The brochure also erroneously indicates that “Usual Entry Charge Waived”. This is misleading. HOD tours of the Jerwood Centre are free, but The Wordsworth Trust is a charity, which relies largely on admission fees for its income and normal charges for entry to Dove Cottage, The Wordsworth Museum and exhibition of watercolours by JMW Turner will apply.

Visitors to the free event in the Jerwood Centre are asked NOT to park in the Dove Cottage car park, but to use the Grasmere pay and display less than 150 yards away in Stock Lane or use public transport.
