St John’s Church

- 12th century church, 18th century cross shaft in churchyard. Parish records on show. Features in church include Victorian box pews and sandstone font, possibly carved from the base of a Roman pillar. Professor Richard Bailey, an expert on Viking crosses, will be giving a short talk on the history of the Waberthwaite cross on Saturday at 1500, and at 1600 there will be a slightly more detailed history followed by a famous Waberthwaite tea!
