Word searching
This system uses word matching. Type your search word or words in the box above and click the search button or press return/enter.
The system treats numbers as words, but words or numbers shorter than 3 characters are not indexed. For example, it will find May and 2002 but it will not find EU or the 20 part of 20 September.
Match Option
- match ANY word will return documents which contain at least one of the words you enter.
- match EVERY word is more specific and will return only documents which contain all of the words you enter.
Scope Option
- search the whole site includes all pages on the site, including general descriptive pages about the Heritage Open Days event.
- search only the event directory limits the search to include only descriptions of properties that you can visit.
Results Pages
Search results are presented as a numbered list. The result title is the same as the title of the corresponding page. The description is an extract from the content of the page. In most cases one or more of your search words will be shown in bold text in the extract.
Click on the result title or the full text link to view a result.
Score
Results are presented in the order in which the system thinks is most relevant to your query. Relevance is shown by a score next to the result title. The calculation of the score is complicated but some broad principles apply. For example, if a word appears in a page title it is considered more important than any where else in the page and therefore contributes to a higher score.
Refining a search
You can do this by entering more search words or by making the search more specific using the match EVERY word option. Also, if you are just looking for properties to visit, don't forget to set the search only the event directory.
